Unibody RF/Fiber Optic Packages Feature Robust Construction
Thunderline-Z's line of unibody RF/Fiber Optic Packages feature extremely robust connections for harsh environments. Unlike other packaging techniques where solder is used to adhere fiber optic connecting tubes, these unibody packages are manufactured with your choice of either fully machined tubes and packages, or packages with brazed tubes utilizing Thunderline-Z's unique Z-Bond process.
For varying cost and application issues, Thunderline-Z has developed the technology to offer the connecting tubes in your choice of either copper, stainless steel, or Kovar. Package material can be either stainless or Kovar. The packages are designed to achieve the following tensile strengths: Brazed Copper Tubes to Kovar Bodies - 28 ksi, Unibody Kovar - 70 ksi, and Unibody Stainless -100 ksi. In comparison, the average soldered connector tube has a tensile strength of just 8 ksi. In addition to achieving higher tensile strength, all Thunderline-Z brazed and unibody package designs achieve a temperature rating of 850°C. This temperature rating far exceeds the temperature range of an average solder connection which is 300°C.
RF performance for all these packages is guaranteed up to 42 GHz. RF designers looking to maximize package real estate can install up to 88 Feedthrus and can vary the style from pin to pin. Pin termination options include flattened, square cut, radiused, or pierced. In applications where power is necessary these packages are ideal because they are suited for integrating true RF with standard DC lead frame configurations.
Applications include missile subsystems, microwave terminations, surveillance systems, EW, commercial communications, and waveguide. Price and delivery is dependant on application.
